Mutation

Untitled | 2018 | Stainless steel pipes and scaffolding clamps | 180 x 90 x 280 cm

Luciana Lamothe’s aesthetic is based on the vital communion between body and architecture, implemented in her installations through an ambivalent use of materials that are both resistant and ductile.

In Mutation, her third personal exhibition of her at the gallery, a sculpture and a set of drawings are on display and reflect the artist’s intention of her to transform the nature of the materials she uses.

The same material can be transformed from its sensitive reaction to certain procedures and tools: stainless steel tubes are bent by spiral cuts, at the same time that they are bent irregularly with the heat of the welding machine. The spiral cuts made on the steel tubes of the sculpture reveal the fragility and lightness that characterize the drawings shown next to it.
