Intervenciones vandálicas, 2003-2006

Between 2003 and 2006 Luciana Lamothe carried out a series of art interventions: minor acts of vandalism in the street or in public or semi-public buildings, recorded photographically. Due to its impact, and the way in which it defined her artistic personality as well as the collection of resources which she would continue to reuse and refine over time, Intervenciones offers a logical starting point.
[In this word we find] two basic standards which in a large part of L.L.’s artistic plan will have self-evident value: the work will always be created outside the workshop, and will emphasize the role of tools, studying different possibilities in the conception, execution and recording of the work.
Looking one by one at the photographs of the interventions, various similarities make one imagine that they represent a homogeneous collection: the means of recording is the same, in all of them we are shown an action performed by a single person and carried out in an external space with a specific tool (aerosol, padlock, paint remover…), in none of them does the person carrying out the action appear, and so on. But on getting closer to the recorded events and their consequences, we will see clear divergences which make the collection not just compact but also complex. Without doubt, it is this complexity which allows this body of work to function as a basis for the operations carried out up to the present time, as regards their methodology, their tone and their sense. Starting with Intervenciones urbanas, the importance of tools will be a recurring feature, and each time it is repeated it adds complexity and conceptual depth to L.L.’s body of work.
